KUCHING: The Miri Division Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) has decided to establish a task force in each of Miri’s five districts.
“We want to track down those yet to be inoculated, and inform them of their last chance to get the vaccine shot as we do not want anyone to be left behind,” minister-in-charge Datuk Lee Kim Shin said after chairing a Miri DDMC meeting via Zoom on Thursday (Aug 12).
He explained that the taskforce would be led by district officers, assisted by agencies and volunteers.
The Sarawak Transport Minister pointed out that the taskforce’s objective would be to ensure that those yet to be vaccinated in Miri Division get at least the first dose by Aug 31; to assist those who have transportation issues going to and from the vaccination centres; and to get more people to get their jabs.
Meanwhile, he said the proposed programmes included conducting public awareness campaigns in all villages and housing areas, particularly in low-income areas; disseminating information through infographics, pamphlets, social media and radio; and providing transportation for vaccine recipients to vaccination centres.
In another note, Lee stated that “anyone who is 18 years old this year or born in 2003, is now eligible to receive the vaccine,” emphasising the importance of the information since those who have not reached the age of 18 were previously prohibited from being inoculated.
“We require the full cooperation of community leaders and Residents Committee to locate these individuals, and to advise everybody in their areas.”
