KUCHING: Taylor’s College kickstarted the year with the sponsorship of more than RM80,000 for an accounting workshop called ‘Bengkel Kecemerlangan Prinsip Perakaunan’ to produce more future accountants for nation-building.

The accounting workshop was held to prepare students for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and encourage more youths to pursue the profession as a career.

The three days accounting workshop was organised by the Principles of Accounting Panel of Fully Residential School Management Division, Ministry of Education (MoE) and supported by the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA).

“The accounting workshop was attended by 375 students from 11 boarding schools in Malaysia from Jan 15 to 17.

“Participants received hands-on training from three accounting Guru Cemerlang, providing students with the knowledge and skills to master the subject at SPM level and a solid foundation to succeed in the competitive world of accounting and finance in the future,” it said in a press statement.

To help nurture the students’ interest in accounting, Taylor’s College will be supporting students from the 11 schools to pursue accountancy on a full scholarship at Taylor’s College under the School of Professional Studies.

Leveraging on the institution’s community strength, Taylor’s College invited chartered accountants and business leaders namely chairman of CIMB Group Datuk Mohd Nasir Ahmad and Group chief financial officer of KFC & Pizza Hut Malaysia Izzad Shamsudin to share valuable insights about the industry and inspire the students present with their stories.

The accounting workshop also created networking opportunities with the accounting community as speakers from MIA were invited to be part of the initiative.

Meanwhile, Taylor’s College Head of School of Professional Studies Jason Lo reiterated that the institution believes in the power of education to shape the future.

“With MIA, we are investing in the future of our youths and the future of accounting in Malaysia.

“We are confident that this is a valuable experience for all participants and we look forward to seeing the impact of this workshop on the careers of the students in developing the nation’s economic growth,” he said.
