KUCHING: Various programmes will be implemented by Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak (TBS) leading up to the Ramadan month.
TBS general manager Datuk Abang Mohd Shibli Abang Mohd Nailie said those at the Ummah Distribution Centre (UDC) and its branches throughout Sarawak would ensure the poor and needy receive appropriate assistance.
“We have about 2,000 poor and needy families or households in the state. They will receive assistance during Ramadan and we will ensure adequate food preparations for them,” he told reporters after handing over assistance at UDC, Medan Hamidah here today (Mar 18).
Mohd Shibli said TBS had appointed more than 800 amil to collect zakat throughout Sarawak.
“They are still able to collect zakat among the community and play the role of explaining the TBS assistance.
“Apart from that, there are digital applications for anyone who wants to pay zakat fitrah, especially for property zakat and so on online,” he said.
Mohd Shibli said programmes would be carried out in collaboration with the Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) and Department of Islamic Affairs Sarawak (JAIS) especially involving assistance to mosques and suraus.
Muslims will start fasting on Apr 13 this year.
