BALINGIAN: It was a memorable outing for a teacher from SMK St Patrick when he emerged the winner of the Heaviest Fish Category of the Kaul Fishing Safari 2018 held on Sunday morning.
With the catch weighing 5.3kg, 24-year-old Joseph Kalong walked away with RM2,000, a hamper and fishing equipment.
In the Ikan Patin Category, the first place was won by Ahmad Desagu, who landed a 3.9kg catch to pocket RM1,000, a hamper and fishing equipment.
First and second runners-up, respectively, were Seruji Bujang (3.6 kg) and Agus (3.5kg); Seruji went home with RM700, a hamper and fishing equipment while Agus received RM500, a hamper and fishing equipment.
For the Ikan Keli Category, the winner was Christopher with a catch of 5.16 kg. Second was Julian (5.01 kg) and third Mohd Faizul (4.85 kg).
Meanwhile, Asepula won the Ikan Kalasuma Category with a 2.33kg catch. Second was Rentap (2.14kg) and third Angeline (1.57kg). In the Ikan Sultan Category, the champion was Joe Banta, with a catch of 0.75 kg.
Second was Christ (0.67 kg) and third Saadon (0.64 kg).
The top three winners of the Ikan Patin, Ikan Keli and Ikan Kala Suma Categories also went home with RM1,000, a hamper and fishing equipment each.
The second place winners received RM700, a hamper and fishing equipment each while the third place winners went home with RM500, a hamper and fishing equipment each.
Meanwhile, Abdul Kadir who caught an Ikan Toman weighing 0.76 kg took the Heaviest Mystery catch prize of RM1,000, a hamper and fishing equipment.
This 8th edition of the sporting event was staged in conjunction with the annual Melanau ethnic biggest festival, Mukah Kaul 2018.
It attracted 775 anglers from throughout the state and beyond.
Organised by the aluminium smelting plant, Press Metal Sarawak (PMS) in collaboration with the organising committee of Mukah Kaul Festival, the event also featured lucky draws with RM1,000 worth of prizes for grabs.
Held at PMS Lake, Tasik Cinta, located about 40 kilometres from Mukah Town Centre, the event also managed to raise RM20,337 for the charity bodies.
The money, which came from the entry fees, was donated to the Mukah Community Rehabilitation Centre (PDK Mukah) and Autism Mukah; each received RM10,168.50 each.
On hand to receive the contribution was PDK Chairman, Rapiee Jaimin Yahya, and SK Mukah Headmaster, Burhanudin Kaderi on behalf of Autism Mukah (Special Education Programme and Integration-Autism and Down Syndrome Awareness).
Tellian State Assemblyman, Yussibnosh Balo, gave away the prizes to the winners at the end of the competition.
