KUCHING: Muhammad Nazmi Rosli, a teacher from Sarawak, has secured a spot among the Top 10 finalists for the Malaysia Teacher Prize (MTP) 2023.
He is currently teaching in SK Long Sebangan in Lawas.
According to MTP in its website, Nazmi is a teacher who is passionate in ensuring his students from rural areas receive the opportunities they deserve.
“He provides his students with first-hand experience of real-world situations that they have never experienced, such as entering a laundrette or getting into a plane, through a classroom simulation known as the Danger Room,” it said.
MTP added outside of the classroom, Nazmi pioneered the Filpen Club, which gave students space to express themselves through filmmaking.
“Through this club, they have produced and sold their own short films with their film, ‘Teether’ being accepted to the Horror Unleashed Film Festival in Portugal,” it added.
The MTP is organised by PEMIMPIN GSL, a non-profit organisation that focuses on strengthening leadership in schools across Malaysia. It is organised to appreciate, celebrate and highlight outstanding teachers in Malaysia.
The Prize is the first of its kind which represents the Global Teacher Prize brand in Malaysia to recognise local teachers on a national scale and provide a platform to scale their best practices with its tagline, ‘The Power of A Teacher, The Potential of A Nation’.
This year, there will be the MTP 2023: Summit and Award Ceremony which will take place at the Sime Darby Convention Centre, Kuala Lumpur, with the Summit happening on November 4 and 5 and the Award Ceremony will be taking place on November 5.
Meanwhile, the MTP top winner will be awarded a cash prize of RM50,000 while the top five finalists each will take home RM5,000.
