KUCHING: Mohd Fadhil Ismail — a teacher from Kampung Hulu, Kabong — won the grand prize of a Proton Iriz at the Melaka River Cruise (MRC)’s Cruise & Win 2019 contest yesterday.
Fadhil who is teaching in SK Nanga Nansang in Song, was among the state’s representatives to Melaka for the Sports and Culture Association of Education Services (PSKPP) Festival 2019.
“That (time) is when we had the chance to enjoy Melaka River Cruise and just took part in the contest without expecting a win since we live far away from Melaka,” he said.
Fadhil shared that apart from going home empty-handed from the tournament (PSKPP Festival 2019), his car was also involved in an accident on Dec 26 last year, and thus he described the grand prize as a miracle and a blessing from God.
“I am extremely grateful for this new car as if this gift came from God to heal my sadness due to the tragedy happened to my car and our loss in the tournament,” he told reporters at the event.
The event which took place at Plaza Merdeka shopping mall also witnessed another Sarawakian, Paulus Pengarah from Sibu, winning one of the eight mystery gifts offered in this contest — a jewellery set.
The prizes were presented by Melaka River and Beach Development Corporation chief executive officer Azlan Abidin.
“I encourage Sarawakians, if possible, to come to Melaka and enjoy MRC’s services as well as take part in the same contest for this year.
“For Cruise & Win 2020, we have more interesting prizes such as a Perodua Alza worth RM62,000 as the grand prize, a ‘Ysuku’ motorcycle and eight more mystery gifts,” Azlan said.
It is open to all visitors who have used MRC’s services by buying tickets worth at least RM200 in a single receipt in order to be eligible to participate.
For the record, MRC has generated a total of RM490,724.65 for participation in the Cruise & Win Contest 2019 with a total of 889,924 visitors.
Also present at the event were Tourism Malaysia Sarawak deputy director Nurul Syaza Mohamad Anuar; State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture deputy director Marahani Marikan; and the ministry’s chief assistant secretary Nasir Lariwoo.
