KUCHING: A workshop on digital technology targeted the provision of the latest digital tools and generative AI technologies to secondary school teachers here.
Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus (Swinburne Sarawak) which spearheaded this initiative partnered with Sekolah Menengah Min Lit Batu Kawa to host the one-day workshop as part of a broader initiative aimed at revolutionising teaching and learning processes.
Titled “Digital Technology and Generative AI for Teaching and Learning in Secondary Education,” the workshop was part of Malaysia’s Knowledge Transfer Programme (KTP).
“The workshop covered three essential areas such as automating routine tasks using digital tools, incorporating generative AI in teaching, and boosting classroom engagement,” it said in a statement.
“The workshop provided practical solutions to everyday challenges faced by educators and featured hands-on exercises that explored real-world applications of digital technology and AI.”
It said that the participants expressed satisfaction with the invaluable insights gained on the use of advanced tools.
“The workshop offered an extensive range of AI tools and its good level of interactivity were the key factors in their positive experience,” it said.
According to the statement, a senior lecturer in data science and advanced analytics at Swinburne Sarawak Dr Miko Chang, led the session alongside project management Master’s graduate from Curtin University Kim T’en.
Dr Chang emphasised the importance of staying ahead of technological advancements, noting that technologies like data science and generative AI offer unprecedented opportunities for educational innovation.
“We are excited to announce that all training materials and research insights from this workshop will be available online, free of charge,” she said.
Meanwhile, the principal of S.M. Min Lit Batu Kawa, Susan Lai, hailed the workshop as a success, highlighting its significance in enhancing the quality of education at the school.
“The integration of generative AI not only modernises our teaching methods but also prepares our educators to meet the challenges of the future,” she said.
