BINTULU: Educators must not only focus on teaching but also on instilling unity and harmony among the younger generation.

Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said this is important in order to produce leaders who can live together in a plural society, respect and tolerate each other including all ethnic groups in Malaysia.

He said this at the PTA Charity Dinner in conjunction with the 49th anniversary of SK Sungai Tisang, here recently.

“Meanwhile, the parent-teacher associations (PTA) need to step up their cooperation with schools to plan more activities that can integrate all ethnicities.

“It is important to ensure the phenomenon of making race and religion issues does not spread to Sarawak because it will definitely harm all parties and worse, invite the division among the people and destroy social peace,” he said.

Meanwhile he said SK Sungai Tisang will celebrate its 50th anniversary next year.

“I will do my best to help make this celebration a success,” he said, adding he will also help with the school’s need for a canteen.
