REOPENING OF SCHOOLS
KUCHING: The Sarawak Bumiputera Teachers Union (KGBS) supports the state government’s announcement on the postponement of school reopening session to August 17, said its president Ahmad Malie.
The postponement is for the students from Primary 1 to Primary 6, transition class and Form 4 and Form 6 for schools in the Kuching, Padawan and Samarahan areas.
“KGBS is confident that the Sarawak government made this decision after receiving views and advice from the Ministry of Health (MoH) and also the National Security Council (NSC) following the re-transmission of covid-19 cases in the three areas.
“Therefore, KGBS hopes that teachers as well as parents and guardians also agree and remain calm with the announcement from the government,” he said in a statement yesterday.
KGBS urged parents and guardians to continue to monitor and ensure the health of their children is under control.
Ahmad said KGBS is confident that teachers in the schools involved are still eager to continue teaching online from home or using whatever method during this postponement period to ensure that students’ learning is not affected.
