KOTA SAMARAHAN: The Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) teaching hospital is expected to start construction April next year and is estimated to be completed by May 2024. The project which costs RM560 million falls under the fourth rolling plan of the 11th Malaysia Plan.
Unimas Vice Chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi announced this in his opening speech at a value management lab on the development project for Kota Samarahan here yesterday.
“The Economic Affairs Ministry and Public Works Department have agreed to expand healthcare services in the teaching school through specialisation,” he said. One of the facilities that will be provided at the 300-bed teaching hospital is 12 surgery rooms equipped with advanced technology.
“It will consist of eight main surgery halls and two each for maternity and daycare operations. “The hospital will also provide a drive thru pharmacy facility via satellite pharmacy for public access,” he added. On academic development in the medicine and health science fields, Kadim said they will focus on four aspects. “The four aspects are reconstructive medicine, regenerative medicine, rehabilitative medicine and infectious disease,” he said.
