KUCHING: The Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) has urged its members to work as a team in order to win back Padungan at the upcoming state election.

Its vice president Datuk Lily Yong said party members and supporters should not look at its candidate as an individual but as a team member working together towards achieving a vision.

“Working as a team is important. With a good team and a very strong team, we can say we are quite prepared for the challenge,” she told reporters when met after the presenting Kenyalang Gold Card (KGC) to eligible recipients in Padungan here Saturday.

Asked on SUPP’s chances of wresting Padungan from the opposition in the coming 12th State Election, she said, “In politics, there is no 100 percent guarantee, and especially in Malaysian politics. Like in Sarawak and Sabah, we all know what we want.

“And the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is doing exactly what we want them to do. They really carry out the mandate of the people of Sarawak. That is very important, they will win,” she said.

Yong, who is also SUPP Kuching branch chairperson, said what was important was that the leaders put the people’s interest first and not their own.

“No matter how beautiful, what beautiful phrases or words of promise, people don’t believe if you are not sincere and have the heart to help.

“The voters will want to see those who truly serve the people and as long as you don’t deviate from the interest of the people of Sarawak,” she said.

Meanwhile, SUPP is promoting Bong Lian Huan and Jong Yean Pin as its potential candidates for the Padungan seat.

“It’s about working as a team now, there must be a solid team behind. We are not emphasising on an individual but a team,” she said.

Currently, the Padungan seat is being held by Wong King Wei who recently announced he was quitting the Democratic Action Party (DAP).
