KUCHING: For altering the date and number of days on a medical leave certificate solely for rest purposes, a technical assistant was fined RM1,000 or two weeks’ imprisonment by the Magistrate’s Court here today.
Farzari, 24, pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 471 of the Penal Code and read together with Section 465 of the same Code before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali.
According to the charge, he was accused of dishonestly using an original document by altering it to a false document, namely a medical certificate, at an office in Saradise on October 27, 2023.
Upon conviction, he could be sentenced to imprisonment for up to two years or fined, or both.
Based on the facts of the case, on October 27, 2023, around 2.34 pm, at an office, the complainant, a Human Resources officer of a company, received a medical certificate from one of its employees named Farzari.
Upon examination, it was found that the certificate had been altered.
The complainant also contacted a government clinic to verify the accused’s name, but the name did not receive treatment on that day.
Subsequently, the complainant filed a police report for further investigation, as well as to refer the government clinic to the company.
As a result of the investigation, it was found that the accused had falsified a medical leave certificate dated October 27, 2023, and the clinic doctor also confirmed the accused’s absence from receiving treatment on that day.
It is understood that the accused obtained a medical leave certificate on October 13, 2023, from the same clinic, but he altered the date and number of days on October 27, 2023, solely for rest purposes.
The prosecution of the case was handled by Inspector Prosecutor Ammarsoffi Yusoff, while the accused was not represented by a lawyer.
