SIBU: A teenager was detained for allegedly riding his motorcycle dangerously in an integrated operation codenamed ‘Ops Samseng Jalanan’ last Saturday.

The operation, carried out along Jalan Awang Ramli Amit and around the town, was held from 10 am to 2 am on Sunday.

Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili in a statement, said that the team managed to arrest a 17-year-old boy for reckless and dangerous riding.

Such act is an offence under Section 42 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries a jail term of up to five years and be fined up to RM15,000, and a driver’s license suspension for a period of up to five years, upon conviction.

Throughout the operation, the team also issued a total of 48 traffic summonses for various offences such as failing to possess a driving license, possessing an expired road tax, modified vehicle structure and exhaust, fancy license plates, lacking side mirrors and incomplete vehicle accessories.

He added that a total of 13 motorcycles were confiscated for documentation purposes.

In light of this, Zulkipli advised road users to adhere to traffic laws and urged parents to monitor and be aware of their children’s activities to prevent them from being involved in illegal activities.
