KUCHING: Tcharges related to drug possession and substance abuse.
The decision followed a social report hearing conducted by the Social Welfare Department on Tuesday (Nov 28).
The defendant had pleaded guilty to two charges framed under Section 12(3) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan.
The first charge, under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, and punishable under Section 12(3) of the same Act, pertains to the possession of 0.11g of methamphetamine.
This offence carries a potential fine of up to RM100,000 or a prison term of up to five years, or both.
Meanwhile, the second charge, under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, and punishable under Section 15(1) of the same Act, is related to involvement in the abuse of methamphetamine and amphetamine drugs.
According to the case details, the police arrested the teenage girl in front of a government building in Jalan Sumber Alam at around 11am on Aug 24, suspecting her involvement in drug abuse activities.
Subsequent inspections revealed a blue plastic packet containing a crystalline substance in her sling bag.
Reports from the Chemistry Department confirmed that the item was methamphetamine weighing 0.11g. Additionally, the girl’s urine test yielded positive results for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
Insp Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang prosecuted the case while the girl appeared without legal representation.
