KUCHING: A 19-year-old male driver broke both his legs in a single-vehicle collision at Jalan Demak Laut around 3.13am today.

According to state Fire and Rescue Operation Centre (Bomba) in a statement, they promptly despatched a team of firemen from Petra Jaya station as well as an ambulance to the scene after receiving a distress call on the incident.

“Upon arrival, the operation commander reports that the driver of the car somehow lost control and veered to the left side of the road.

“The car is believed to have struck a tree by the roadside before landing in a ditch.

“The crash also left the youth deep injuries to his kneecaps,” it said, adding the victim was trapped inside his car due to the collision.

Firefighters had to use special rescue tools to extricate the victim out of the vehicle.

He was later transported to the hospital by the ambulance for further treatment.
