KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here placed a teenage girl on a six-month good behaviour bond for concealing the birth of her daughter in Bandar Baru Samariang last month.

Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi handed this decision to the 14-year-old after she pleaded guilty to a charge framed under Section 67 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The young offender was ordered released on a RM2,000 bond with her mother as the surety.

According to the facts of the case, a police officer received a phone call from the public about the discovery of a newborn baby around 9.45am on Nov 29.

The baby girl, with the umbilical cord still attached, was found alive on the grass at Lorong Cahaya Damai, Bandar Baru Samariang.

A police report was made and it led to the young offender’s arrest in the Matang area at around 8pm on Nov 30. Further investigations found that she had no disciplinary issues and was still attending school.

Meanwhile, an 18-year-old was arrested by police around 11.05am on Dec 1 in connection with the discovery of the baby girl.

Kuching police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah said the teenager was believed to be the partner of the young offender in the case.

The case is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape.
