KAPIT: Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Bumiputera Sarawak (Tegas) held its ‘Project of Dream Realised Road Show’ (Jelajah Pendidikan dan Kerjaya) at Kapit Civic Centre here recently.

The education roadshow received an overwhelming response as hundreds of SPM and STPM school leaver and their parents patronised the one-day event.

They were eager to know the opportunities available for further studies and to acquire hands-on skills through the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) activity, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) demonstration as well as career and motivation talks.

Hulu Rejang MP Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong who officiated at the roadshow, noted that it served as a platform to inform school leavers of the various opportunities available to enable them to further their studies or attain skills training offered by institutions of learning nationwide.

He added that the roadshow was held state wide to benefit bumiputera students so that they are aware of the opportunities made available by the government. The roadshow, he said is a fine effort by the GPS government to tap the human resources among the younger generation so that they are able to match opportunities offered in the career market.

“The success or failure of students is determined by their hard work and commitment to study. It doesn’t mean failure is because a person is not smart or intelligent. It is a matter of good discipline and determination to do well. SPM or STPM is not the end of education but the beginning to higher studies or for vocational technical training to acquire hands-on skills. Those who performed well in public examinations could further their studies at university while those who did not do well in terms of academic results could register for skills training  at vocational or technical institutes,” advised Ugak.
