BINTANGOR: Sarawak is calling for a more skilled local workforce, particularly in technical fields, to fuel its growing economy.

Meradong assemblyman and Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Sarawak (TEGAS) trustee Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing said this was to ensuring a future generation capable of leading the state effectively.

“A diverse economic base and a highly skilled and educated workforce are key contributors to a robust economy.

“However, our state still faces a gap in skilled local workers, especially in technical fields. This is where TVET comes in,” said Ding at the recent opening ceremony of the Project Of Dream Realised (PRO-DR) Roadshow Series 9, 2024, held at Bintangor Community Hall.

He commended the state government’s efforts through TEGAS in developing the state’s human capital.

The PRO-DR programme, an educational and career carnival roadshow, is organised by the state government through TEGAS, with support from the Sarawak State Education Department (JPNS).

This edition features over 25 educational and training institutions, government agencies, and financial aid providers.
