MIRI: Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau expressed his optimism that the land and air Vaccinated Travel Land (VTL) between Malaysia and Brunei will soon be revived.
He said this following a smooth discussion between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Sultan of Brunei Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah on the matter.
“There has been good progress in the discussions … to restore the connectivity between the countries,” the chairman of the Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) said at the launching of the Sarawak Lakiput Association gotong-royong programme held at Esplanade beach in Bakam here on Saturday (Feb 19).
Also present was the event organising chairperson Florence Dau Tuah.
Under the VTL, fully vaccinated travellers will be able to travel between Malaysia and Brunei and be subjected to COVID-19 tests instead of being issued a quarantine or stay-home order.
The opening of both borders (Malaysia-Brunei) is highly anticipated by people from both countries, especially those residing in Miri, Limbang and Lawas.
The borders have been closed since the COVID-19 pandemic began two years ago, which halted travels to and from the countries.
Meanwhile, the Sarawak Lakiput Association was lauded for organising the gotong-royong programme.
“Despite being an ethnic minority, you all came together today to carry out the gotong-royong as a big family. Well done,” Dennis said.
