TATAU: The Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) is intensifying efforts to monitor community concerns regarding various emerging issues in their areas.
Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information & UKAS) Datuk Abdullah Saidol identified five main issues currently affecting the public.
These include telecommunications, vandalism, and water and electricity supply, among others.
“All major issues identified in each area will be reported to the Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg. Rest assured, these matters are quickly brought to his attention because one of UKAS’ tasks is to monitor and address every community concern,” he said.
He made this remark at the UKAS Bersama Komuniti Program @ Kuala Tatau 2024 held at the Kampung Haji Ismail Futsal Court here today (May 18).
Abdullah, who is also Semop assemblyman added that UKAS also disseminates information about the Sarawak government’s policies and initiatives, educating the public about them.
He said UKAS officers should ensure the public understands the many beneficial policies the Sarawak government has for its people.
“Through fieldwork, UKAS receives valuable input, especially from young people and university students,” he noted.
During the event, he also announced an allocation of RM2,000 each to the Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK) of Kampung Haji Ismail, Kampung Nour Iman, Kampung Seberang Jaya, Kampung Dagang Tatau, and Kampung Hilir.
Additionally, he made contributions to the Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG) of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Tatau and five youth.
The event also featured competitions for the Best Umai Dish, Best Stall, and Best 70s Costume.
Also present were Jepak assemblyman Iskandar Turkee, UKAS director Samuel Simon, and Tatau and Sebauh District Education officer Fred Entau.
