Telegram has affirmed its commitment to establish closer cooperation and forge stronger ties with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (SKMM) and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).
This came during a meeting chaired by Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil, representatives from Telegram gathered at the Bukit Aman Police Headquarters yesterday. The Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani, was also present.
The meeting was held to discuss the pressing issue of online crimes facilitated through Telegram and to initiate a collaborative effort among agencies to ensure the platform’s enhanced safety for users.
Fahmi emphasized the prevalence of various crimes, such as investment scams, pedophilia, pornography, and other online offenses on Telegram. He underscored the need for Telegram and other messaging applications or social media platforms to strictly adhere to Malaysian laws.
Both Fahmi and PDRM expressed a firm stance, highlighting the significance of the cooperative involvement of Telegram and other platforms in complying with Malaysian laws.
