KUCHING: Teleport, the logistics venture of Capital A (formerly AirAsia Group Berhad) registers strong interest with Sarawak’s business community at the Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office Singapore (STATOS) who are looking to leverage Teleport’s extensive air cargo network coverage in ASEAN, to grow their business reach across Southeast Asia.
It is noted that Teleport recognises the importance of servicing the trade movements in and out of East Malaysia. In 2022, Teleport moved 25,000 tonnes of cargo and over 5.5 million parcels for East Malaysia, out of which 40 per cent of cargo and parcels are servicing Sarawak lanes.
In its press statement here yesterday, Teleport now moves a variety of goods, cargo and parcels in and out of East Malaysia, such as fresh and frozen seafoods, fresh and dry produce, apparels, electronic and manufactured goods, among others, into key export markets such as West Malaysia, Singapore and Asia Pacific cities such as Shenzhen and Incheon.
Its spokesperson said to date in 2023, over 1.5 tonnes of fresh Kolo Mee and over 350kgs of fresh and dried fruits and vegetables have been shipped by air between Sarawak and Singapore.
“With the induction of the A321 Freighters into Teleport’s cargo fleet in 2023, this will add more skidded capacity in addition to its extensive passenger cargo belly network.
This is expected to contribute towards increased air cargo capacity and flexibility to meet air cargo requirements for Sarawak business community – from large volume, general cargo such as machinery and electronic components, different categories of dangerous goods (DG), to small parcels for e-commerce businesses in Sarawak,” she added.
Similarly, Natasia Jerah, Country Head, Teleport Singapore said she noted a great potential in both import and export trade opportunities here in Sarawak.
“There has been early success specifically for the Kuching and Sibu Singapore trade lane – with major exports focused on fresh food and fruits.
“We would like to expand upon this as we have the network, capacity and coverage to help local businesses grow beyond Sarawak and into the ASEAN, as well as APAC region. STATOS has been instrumental in their role to enhance trade relations between Sarawak and Singapore and we are grateful for this partnership,” Jerah added.
Established in 2018 by consolidating the belly capacity of all AirAsia airlines under a single comprehensive network, Teleport today is an air logistics solutions provider that is building its leadership in the ASEAN market.
With a fleet of 205 wide- and narrow-body AirAsia aircraft, Teleport covers more than 85 cities in Southeast Asia, covering also 2nd and 3rd tier cities.
