KUCHING: Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) should have informed the state government if the Sarawak State Stadium did not meet the standards for occupation.

“What’s the point of building a stadium that doesn’t meet the safety requirements?” asked Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

He was responding to local media report that said 13 of the 21 stadiums in the country were unsafe as they failed to obtain a Code of Compliance (CCC) or Certificate of Fitness (CF) for occupation, including the Sarawak State Stadium.

“I have yet to receive any information on this. I won’t be able to comment further but from what I have seen there is no problem. We have been hosting Malaysia Games (Sukma) and so many events at the stadium.

“Bomba should have informed us instead of going through the media straight away,” he told reporters when met at Wisma Bapa Malaysia yesterday.

However, state Bomba director Khirudin Drahman said he would constantly monitor and give warnings and notices to buildings without CCC and CF.
