MUKAH: Tellian assemblyman Yussibnosh Balo praised the agriculture department and farmers association for helping farmers by buying their excess produce during Covid-19 pandemic.

He said the pandemic had affected many sectors of the economy, including farmers.

According to him, Covid-19 also taught everyone a lesson, which is; individuals, organisations including non-governmental organisations (NGO) coming together to help those in need.

He said for example, the agriculture department and area farmers association bought the produce from local farmers, who have difficulty in marketing them.

“Their contribution may be small, but they are willing to help the farmers,” he said when officiating at the Peladang Perihatin Sarawak programme at Dewan Suarah Mesra here on Wednesday (Aug 25).

At the event, Yussibnosh handed over fruits to frontliners serving at the Dewan Suarah Mesra immunisation centre (PPV).

Mukah Division Agriculture Department and Mukah Area Farmers Association (PPK) contributed the fruits.

Mukah Division agriculture officer Malissa Bonaventure Lutong, Mukah district police chief DSP Mohamad Rizal Alias, Sarawak administrative officer Peleadzman Ahip, who represented Mukah Division Resident and Mukah PPK general manager Jamaluddin Ago, also attended the event.
