MUKAH: Tellian assemblyman Royston Valentine has pledged to persist in his efforts to assist schools facing challenges, particularly those requiring immediate repairs for the safety and comfort of students.
“This encompasses issues related to deteriorating school buildings that urgently need repair for the sake of safety and to foster a more conducive learning environment.
“I will continue to explore avenues, such as the Minor Rural Project (MRP), to facilitate timely and appropriate repairs,” he said in a recent Facebook post.
His commitment follows a meeting with the president of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) and the principal of SMK Three Rivers at the Tellian Service Centre.
Acknowledging the prolonged wait for solutions from the Malaysian Ministry of Education (MOE), Royston stressed the importance of immediate action, stating, “We will do what we can to provide short-term solutions first.”
He commended the visitation programme to 13 primary schools, acting as ‘feeder schools’ to SMK Three Rivers. He highlighted the programme’s effectiveness in addressing challenges specific to incoming Form One students from these feeder schools.
“This programme is highly commendable and should be implemented by other high schools in Mukah. They possess a better understanding of the issues that arise when students from feeder schools enrol in Form One later.”
