LUNDU: Plans are underway to transform Telok Melano into a tourist spot.
For a start, it would be equipped with basic amenities for the convenience of visitors, tourists included.
Plans are also in the pipeline to provide a proper car park, public toilets, garbage bins and rest areas.
Also in the pipeline are designated spaces for those keen to operate food and drinks outlets and souvenir stores selling local-made handicraft.
Yesterday, Tanjung Datu assemblywoman Datuk Amar Jamilah Anu accompanied by senior officials from the Lundu District Council visited the place.
The visit was aimed at identifying facilities and relevant infrastructure that needed to be put in place. It was also prompted by complaints of indiscriminate littering at the place.
Jamilah said she would be meeting up with the various implementing agencies to assist in developing Telok Melano.
Telok Melano has been seeing many visitors especially after the opening of the Telok Melano-Sematan stretch of the Pan Borneo road project, making it easily accessible by road.
The 33.7km road project was officially opened by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg on Jan 26.
During the visit, Jamilah, who was accompanied by Lundu District Council secretary Norashikin Brahim also took part in a gotong-royong to clean up the place.
Jamilah advised visitors to Telok Melano to ensure that the place was kept clean at all times by not throwing rubbish indiscriminately.
