SEMATAN: Due to the current entry and exit restrictions, the temporary Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex at Telok Melano has not been fully operational.

In the meantime, the immigration office at Sematan will manage the entry and exit process of foreigners at the Telok Melano entry point, if any.

This was said by Immigration director-general Datuk Khairul Dzaimee Daud in a news report by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) on Saturday.

“The Immigration Department will start operating it full-time when the border gates open, which we are expecting sometime next year, and depending on directives from the state government and the federal government,” he said.

On the Telok Melano CIQ Complex worth approximately RM6.2 million which will be built to replace the temporary CIQ, he said the land acquisition process is being implemented.

“Only after that, construction on the permanent CIQ will be carried out in the next Malaysia Plan,” he said when visiting the Telok Melano CIQ last Saturday.
