KUCHING: Ten individuals were slapped with compound fines for flouting Covid-19 public place standard operating procedure (SOP).

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said five of the errant individuals were fined in Kuching, followed by two each in Betong and Miri, and one in Kota Samarahan.

The Ministry of Local Government and Housing also issued 124 verbal, written and seizure warnings in areas under the supervision of various local councils.

On SOP compliance monitoring, enforcement teams inspected 1,306 premises throughout Sarawak.

These included 270 restaurants, supermarkets (156), banks (106), places of worship (55), public markets (55), government offices (42), leisure places (37), hawker stalls (31), construction sites (23), factories (11), and others (520).

Under Ops Benteng, 1,910 vehicles were inspected at seven roadblocks in six districts – two in Lawas, and one each in Lundu, Bau, Serian, Sri Aman, and Lubok Antu.
