BINTULU: Cherilynn Christale Chan Qi Qi showed resilience and determination to fight back against her opponent Reshwareeya Rai Mani Maran from Johor.
Cherilynn fought back in the female category 51-54 kilos after being behind to win 29-20 in her favour.
The Kuching lass had razor sharp focus after being behind in the first round, and 16-14 in the second round yet she struck a continuous blows on her opponent to give herself the lead.
She certainly had the backing of the local crowd, who were cheering and screaming for her to win.
Cherilynn’s persistency and smart strategy saw her ahead by 25-18 in the second round and she pushed through for the third round to win it with 29-20.
Sarawak Muay Thai Association (PMNS) president Jumaat Ibrahim congratulated Cherilynn on her win which would take her into the semifinal.
“Huge congratulations to Cherilynn Chan on her win which brings her into the next round.
“We hope she can continue her momentum to fight in the semifinals,” he told Sarawak Tribune yesterday (Aug 17).
