SIBU: A man was rushed to hospital for burns on his hands and feet after a fire broke out in the house he was staying in at Jalan Sungai Bidut near SJK Kwong Ming here last night.

A spokesman for the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Operations Centre said Chieng Chin Hwa, 28, was taken to hospital by people in the neighbourhood.

According to him, the fire brigade received an emergency call regarding the incident at 10.56 pm.

“Shortly after arriving at the scene, firefighters reported that a single-storey non-permanent type house had been totally destroyed in the fire.

“Neighbours reported that a tenant of the house had been taken to the hospital but his condition could not be determined,” he said in a statement today.

He also said that firefighters had trouble getting into the area due to the narrow access route.

They had to walk carrying pumps and hoses to put out the fire using open water sources, he added.
