SIBU: A rented house at Lorong Laichee here, was partially destroyed in an early morning fire yesterday (July 23).

Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported in the 5.47am fire as the two male tenants had evacuated to safety.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Sibu central station was deployed to the scene after being alerted of the incident.

Upon arrival, they discovered thick smoke had emerged from the front door of the house. The firefighters swiftly sprang into action to extinguish the fire.

It was reported that the flames had destroyed about 50 per cent of the house.

Once the situation was deemed safe and there was no risk of reignition, the team ended the operation.

The cause of the fire and losses incurred are still under investigation.
