KUCHING: Approximately 20,000 visitors are expected to turn up for this year’s Sebuyau Festival.
The three-day festival will be held from the October 27- 29 in Sebuyau town. Assistant Minister of Coastal Road and Sebuyau State Assemblyman, Datuk Julaihi Narawi told a press conference at Wisma Sumber Alam here yesterday that the event aimed to develop and promote the area as a destination for water sports through the regatta event, one of the highlights of the festival.
“What’s unique about this regatta race is the cup which is called The ‘Raja Laut’ Cup,” he said, explaining that the race would be from the South China Sea to the Sebuyau River.
Julaihi added that there would be booths showcasing the unique products of the local community, such as “ikan terubok” and other seafood.
According to him, Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Amar Haji Awang Tengah Ali Hasan is expected to declare open the festival on October 28 at 10am while Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas will close it on October 29 at 2pm.
Other activities during the festival include various contests such as karaoke and dancing as well as the “Sebuyau Festival Queen 2017”.
