MUKAH: The Tenggiri King competition here, which aims to crown the best fisherman, will take place on June 17, coinciding with Sarawak’s 60th Independence celebration at the Mukah Division level.
Organised jointly by the Malaysian Fisheries Department, Mukah Anglers Community Association, and the Malaysian Maritime Department, the competition will be held at the coastal wharf jetty in Mukah and the surrounding waters near the mouth of the Mukah River.
Registration forms and competition requirements can be obtained at fishing shops in Bandar Lama Mukah (Fisherman Station, Yek Hwa Trading) starting from May 20. The deadline for participation is June 15.
Participants will be released for fishing at 8am, and the competition will conclude at 4pm on June 17, which falls on a Saturday.
Organising committee member Hazemi Mirad highlighted that substantial prizes await participants who catch the biggest and longest Tenggiri fish. The champion will receive RM3,000, a trophy and a hamper.
Prizes will also be awarded to the second to fifth place winners, the 6th to 10th position holders, and the 11th to 20th position holders, with rewards ranging from cash prizes to fishing-related hampers.
Additionally, there will be prizes for the best boatman and the best team, with cash rewards, trophies and hampers.
