KUCHING: Sarawak Teochew Sim Clan Association held their Malaysia Sim Clan Association 3rd Session (2017-2020) 5th annual general meeting (AGM) in their newly renovated building yesterday (Dec 10).

Also present to preside over the opening ceremony of the building was Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian, who delivered his opening remarks at the International Sim Clan Foundation 3rd Session (2021-2023) 1st executive board meeting at 9 am.

“The International Sim Clan Foundation 3rd Session (2021-2023) 1st executive board meeting was attended by members from across Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand and via online with members in China, Vietnam and Taiwan.

“In the afternoon session, the Malaysia Sim Clan Association 3rd Session (2017-2020) 5th AGM was also held,” the association said in a statement here yesterday.

The attending members of the two meetings gathered at the newly renovated building of Sarawak Teochew Sim Clan Association and the deputy premier had the opportunity to meet the Malaysian and international members to enhance friendship among the clan.

The renovation cost of the whole building was assisted by Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR) with the recommendation and supported by Dr Sim who is also their honorary president.

The project took six months to complete and the association would like to extend their big thank you to the deputy premier and Sarawak government for their kind assistance.

The president Sim Moh Kian and its members expressed their appreciation of the Sarawak government for being the only one in Malaysia in extending the financial assistance through UNIFOR to the association.

The statement added that the financial assistance was for their ancestral worship practice and maintained their state constitution rights in the freedom to practise their beliefs and religion.
