BINTULU: The Parti Tenaga Rakyat Sarawak (Teras) is striving to fortify its position within Sarawak’s political sphere in the hope of being recogniSed as a component party of Barisan Nasional (BN).
Affendi Jeman, the chairman, has expressed unwavering confidence in the enduring support of Sarawak’s populace for BN, highlighting BN’s extensive 50-year governance history in Sarawak.
He underscored BN’s past victories under its banner in elections predating the formation of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) as a testament to the resolute backing of Sarawakians for BN.
He was speaking during a press conference held at a renowned restaurant here on Monday night as part of the ‘Makan Malam Wawasan Teras’ event.
He made it clear that Teras does not stand in opposition to GPS and extends support to the current federal and state administrations.
“We stand by GPS. The establishment of the unity government comprises GPS, GRS Sabah, BN, and Pakatan Harapan. Our principle is to bolster the present government where we can provide support,” elucidated Affendi.
Teras is presently in the process of seeking admission into BN and is awaiting approval.
“While BN no longer exists in Sarawak, we aim to become a BN component within Sarawak,” he said.
When questioning BN’s potential to smoothly reintegrate into Sarawak’s politics, Affendi stressed the significance of honouring the people’s wishes.
“If there is a yearning from the grassroots, the ordinary voters, leaders must regard this earnestly. They cannot afford to dismiss it lightly,” he emphasized.
Regarding Teras potentially contesting certain seats in the forthcoming state election, Affendi chose not to provide further comments.
