MIRI: A couple were among three Indonesians charged in the Sessions Court here over the possession of materials related to a terrorist group.
The accused, Ardiana Rashid, 26, her husband Sandi Sang Putra, 23, and Abdan Syakur, 32, arrived at the court complex yesterday morning escorted by anti-terror unit personnel.
The trio were arrested in three separate locations on Sept 14.
They were accused of possessing materials related to Islamic State (IS), found inside their respective cellphones.
Abdan was arrested at a Pan Borneo construction site along Jalan Bintulu-Miri while Ardiana and Sandi were arrested at an oil palm estate office in Bintulu and a workers’ quarters respectively.
They are charged under Section 130JB (1)(a) of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of seven years’ jail or fine and possible forfeiture of the materials.
All of them nodded when the charges were read out before Sessions Court Judge Steve Ritikos but no plea was recorded.
Deputy public prosecutor Aftal Mariz prosecuted while the suspects were unpresented.
The court fixed Dec 3 for mention of the case.
