KUCHING: Sarawak Deputy Chief Minister Douglas Uggah Embas is thankful to Sarawakians for their commitment to the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK) against the Covid-19 pandemic.
He said through the cooperation of all, Sarawak had been able to achieve its immunisation target, with 90.1 percent of adults having been jabbed with the first shot of the vaccine and 87.3 percent for the second shot as of Aug 26.
“The only way to fight Covid-19 is by implementing an immunisation programme. Since March this year, the Sarawak government has been actively implementing the programme.
“I am confident that by Aug 31, Sarawak will achieve the target of its immunisation programme,” he said in a National Day video posted on Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) Facebook page today.
The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman also appealed to anyone who has yet to receive the vaccine shot to get it as soon as possible for the common good.
On another note, he said the National Day celebration reminded the people that the country was once colonised by foreign powers and how much the previous leaders were willing to sacrifice their lives to restore the rights and govern the country themselves.
“While this year 2021 is a challenging year for us this is the second year that all citizens have united to fight against the spread of Covid-19.
“The determination and commitment of every citizen is greatly appreciated and it reflects a noble and patriotic struggle for the country,” he said.
Uggah, who is also the Bukit Saban assemblyman, in his National Day wish hoped the celebration would motivate Malaysians to stand together in facing critical times and new challenges.
“I am confident that we will be able to successfully overcome them together with political stability, racial unity and harmony in Sarawak.”
