KUCHING: Satellites have enabled the state’s Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) to better strategise its actions in fighting forest fires and locating hotspots.
With the technology, NREB was able to accurately locate where the fires and hotspots were, said its Environmental Quality controller Justine Jok Jau Emang.
“Other than enabling us to pin-point the exact locations (complete with coordinates), the satellites have made it possible for the world to share information within a short time,” he said at a recent meeting of an upcoming conference and exhibition on ‘Acceleration and Innovation through Satellite Applications Sarawak’ (Aisas 2019) here.
The two-day Aisas 2019 is scheduled to be held at a hotel here on Sept 23 and 24.
The conference is expected to feature eight leading international speakers and players in satellite technology and applications.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Haji Johari Tun Openg is expected to officiate at the opening ceremony.
