KUCHING: The six-day Tenun Week 2019 has been described as a “melting pot”, with the “mixture” of various cultures coming together.

This was said by Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah during the closing ceremony of the event at The Hills here, yesterday.

The event was filled with a wide range of activities designed for established local artisans, talented amateurs and aspiring members of the public to immerse in the arts, culture and heritage of Sarawak and to expand their creative abilities.

Tenun Week 2019 director Fiona Marcus Raja stated that the event was very fulfilling in showcasing the beauty of Sarawak’s cultures.

“This event has been the most intense event that we ever hosted, as the main purpose of Tenun Week 2019 is to showcase the diversity of Sarawak culture.

“It was overwhelming that we had visitors and talented artisans coming from all over Sarawak,” she said, adding that the next Tenun Week will be held next year in Sibu.
