By MAYA GREEN

It was the butterfly
Which first caught my eye
Floating over the flowers
On the updraft it hovers

And the morning sun
Sprays wide with a cosmic gun
Light specs of gold
To everyone dispersed, I’m told

Touching the earth below
Warming the air with its glow
After the night’s cold mischief
Indeed a welcome relief

Then came the breeze
Like someone about to sneeze
Coming swiftly by
Almost on the sly

For not wanting to be left out
From this morning’s early shout
It comes, coming swiftly by
But seen not, with the naked eye

But definitely felt
Like a tightening belt
And right on cue
With a signal, that’s true

The leaves start swaying
Like green hands a praying
And joining in the melody
And to complete the parody

With arms vigorously waving
The branches are now raving
Dancing to a hidden melody
In my heart, it’s audible to me

Is heard by all in the garden
A song that has to it no burden
Where leaden feet turn to the air
For this is a dance of flair

See also  Living alone with my dog and cat

So a commotion turned to a riot
But this song is not for the idiot
It calls on to the hummingbirds
Closely joined by other song birds

On wings they come a floating
To the flowers they swing
Painting many a rainbow
The fairies, they dance in the glow

In the tender morning sun
All eager and full of fun
Their multi-coloured feathers
Are a reflection of wonders

In the receptacles of beauty
Filled with honeyed energy
In the corner of the garden
Here now with unmatched brazen

So I am too, doing the dance of self
Being part of the cosmic trance
For this is where I’ll truly find myself
In this dance of all at once
