KOTA SAMARAHAN: The king of fruits is in season again!
According to a durian seller Zamberi Chupek, despite a high price tag, durian is currently in high demand.
In fact, he said in two to six hours, more than 90 percent of his durians were sold (per day) since he opened his stall last Sunday.
Operating daily from 11am at a commercial centre in Taman Desa Ilmu here, Zamberi said every day he would sell around 100 durians at a price between RM20 to RM40 each, depending on the size of the fruit.
“According to my observation, people prefer to buy durians at my stall because the size of my durians is bigger than the ones at other stalls for the same price.
“Therefore, it is not surprising that almost 100 durians have been sold in a very short period every day.
“For the record, all my durians were sold out in just two hours last Sunday. Meanwhile, for today, after six hours, there are only four durians left,” he told New Sarawak Tribune yesterday adding that he obtained his supply of durians from Kampung Isu, Kampung Spaoh and Kampung Temiang in Simunjan.
Further elaborating, the 46-year-old said besides selling durians at the stall, he also uses the social media to sell the fruits through which he manages to sell more than 30 percent of the total daily sale.
Commenting on the price of durian which is quite expensive at the moment, it is because many durian trees that are bearing fruits are eaten by squirrels, he pointed out.
