SIBU: Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak will use its Rocket logo to contest in the 15th general election (GE15) despite the other component parties in Pakatan Harapan (PH) using the logo of the alliance.
DAP Sarawak chairman, Chong Chieng Jen said the move is to avoid confusion as the voters throughout the state have been familiar with the logo for a long time.
“As far as I am concerned, Sarawak voters are very familiar with the rocket logo so we do not want to cause any confusion among our voters.
“However, PKR will be using the PH logo,” he said when asked by reporters after the launch of DAP Sibu Operation Centre, today.
Asked about the campaign approach used during this GE compared to the last state election, Chong emphasised that his party always keeps up with current changes, especially in the use of social media.
“We must alter our campaign methods and keep up with the changes, especially among the youth. So, we will continue to use social media but we also emphasise mainstream media.
“In social media, we find that there is a lot of fake news circulating from irresponsible sources so I think more people have confidence in what is reported in the mainstream media and also news portals because these are the more responsible entities.
“We will check and balance with those methods and of course, physical campaigning is our main method because in the last state election, due to the strict SOPs, we were not allowed to hold talks,” he said.
Meanwhile, on the newly launched operation room, Sibu incumbent Oscar Ling noted that they will be preparing their machinery for the upcoming GE15 so that during the nomination day they are ready to ‘jump’ in full force.
“We have roughly one month before polling on Nov 19. So, within this one month, we will continue to work hard to make sure our message can spread out and make sure people come out (to vote) especially the youth as they will be the kingmaker in the coming GE.
“We have six million first-time voters in this coming GE so we hope they all come out (to vote). I know a lot of them still hesitate to come out or not but we need to let them know that this coming election is very important. This election is about their future,” he said.
Ling also emphasised that if all the young voters exercised their right to vote they would be an unstoppable force in the GE15.
Also present was DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang, Lanang incumbent Alice Lau and former Bukit Assek assemblywomen Irene Chang.
