KUCHING: The amendment to the Constitution of the state of Sarawak for the term “Chief Minister” to be restyled to “Premier”, will come into effect today.
Sarawak State Secretary Datuk Jaul Samion said the Sarawak state legislative assembly (DUN) on Feb 15 has passed several amendments to the Constitution of the state of Sarawak.
“Amongst those amendments was that the term “Chief Minister” to be restyled to “Premier”.
“This amendment is effective from today, March 1,” he said in a statement.
He said the Chief Minister of Sarawak after the date of coming into force of the amendments will be addressed in English as “Premier of Sarawak” and in Bahasa Malaysia as “Premier Sarawak”.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister’s Office will be referred to in English, as the “Office of the Premier of Sarawak” and in Bahasa Malaysia as “Pejabat Premier Sarawak”.
In this connection, Deputy Chief Minister will be referred as Deputy Premier, and Assistant Minister as Deputy Minister with effect from the same date.
