KUCHING: St Joseph’s Family of Schools Kuching is restaging the school’s original musical production “The White Rajah of Sarawak” as part of the Rainforest Fringe Festival 2019.

“The White Rajah of Sarawak” musical production, originally scripted and orchestrated by the school’s own talents, was first staged in 2017.

It showcased the birth of the State of Sarawak under the first White Rajah, Sir James Brooke.

The musical is part of a series of yearly performances that highlights the school’s mission in developing and promoting appreciation of our local talents, arts, culture and history through the performing arts. “The White Rajah of Sarawak” musical production was met with resounding success.

With the continued interest shown since its inception, the school decided to restage the musical this July with additional script, new cast, songs and choreography.

The Rainforest Fringe Festival’s emphasis on celebrating the state’s unity and pride will be echoed in the musical.

Proceeds from the event will contribute towards the building of a new multipurpose school building that will be equipped with facilities for performing arts.

Reflecting on the restaging of the musical, Lucilla Chin, one of the secondary school’s teachers who is part of the director’s team since the beginning, said, “To be able to revisit all that is somehow deeply gratifying and that is the reason we have faith in garnering the support of those who had seen it to come back and experience it again with us, because there is so much more left to discover in the musical.”

Catch the restaging of “The White Rajah of Sarawak” during the Rainforest Fringe Festival on three nights from July 5 to 7 at the Grand Hall of the Archdiocesan Curia and Cathedral Pastoral Centre (ACCPC), St Joseph’s Cathedral.

Tickets including corporate tickets will be sold from May 23 onwards and can be purchased at the school during office hours or online at Eventbrite.com. Those interested can contact 082-414575 or 082-420575 for further details.
