KUCHING: An unemployed man was sentenced to two months in prison by the Magistrate’s Court for stealing seven bottles of perfume just to sell it back to buy drugs.
Saharizan, 38, from Kampung Tengah, Sri Aman pleaded guilty to a charge which was read before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan yesterday.
According to the charges, he committed the offence at a pharmacy shop in a shopping centre in Metrocity, Matang, here at about 11.30 am last Aug 16.
He was charged under Section 380 of the Penal Code and read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code.
The Magistrate ordered the accused to serve his prison sentence effective Aug 16.
During the incident, an employee at a pharmacy discovered that Awang Saharizan stole seven bottles of perfume that were put in a bag without making any payment.
He continued to put the bag into the basket of his motorcycle but was detained by a security guard at the premises when the employee called for help.
The estimated price for all the perfumes is RM182.70. The offender was arrested by the police for further action after receiving a report from Metrocity security.
It is understood that Awang Saharizan admitted to stealing the perfume to resell them to get money to buy drugs.
The prosecution of the case was handled by Prosecuting Officer Inspector Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang while the accused was not represented by a lawyer.
