PANTU: Another finding of a metal object believed to be from China’s Long March 5B rocket, was made in Semawa oil palm plantation here yesterday.
This makes it the third case recorded by the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) on objects believed to be debris from the Long March 5B rocket in Sarawak.
A Bomba spokesman from said the grey-coloured object measuring 2.3m long, 1m wide and 5mm thick, was found by the public around 11.55am and authorities were quickly informed of the finding.
Firemen from Sri Aman station together with the police were deployed to the scene to secure the area pending the arrival of Kuching Atomic Energy Licensing Board (AELB) and Department of Chemistry personnel.
Upon their arrival, radiation level checks were immediately conducted by the Department of Chemistry and Bomba.
After ensuring that no radiation was detected, the object was retrieved and handed over to the Department of Chemistry and police for further action.
On July 31, the Long March 5B rocket was reported to have re-entered into the earth’s atmosphere above the Indian Ocean at around 12.45am.
That day, numerous photos and videos of several bright objects, suspected to be debris from the rocket, seen streaking across the night sky in Sarawak, had gone viral on social media.
The first discovery of a 27kg metal fragment believed to be from the rocket in Sarawak, was made at Taman Goodwill, Sepupok Niah in Miri on the day of re-entry.
Meanwhile, the second discovery was made near Rh Ngadab Sungai Kurong, Suai on Aug 8 where two objects were found half-buried in the ground in an orchard.
