KUCHING: The third phase of the Batu Kawa Riverbank Park is expected to be ready by the upcoming Chinese New Year celebration.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said the third phase, connecting Phase 1 and 4 of the project, will have various recreational facilities.

This include skateboarding, pickle ball court, petanque court, table tennis, 3×3 basketball court as well as car parks.

The project, consisting of five phases, include the Sky Window in Phase 1, providing unique panoramic scenery view of Batu Kawa, walkway connecting with Batu Kawa Old Town (Phase 2), recreational facilities for children (Phase 4) as well as riverbank protection for Kampung Rantau Panjang and Kampung Sinar Budi Lama in Phase 5.

“A glass bridge will also be built to connect Phase 4 to Phase 5, with the consultant for the glass bridge being appointed by Sarawak Financial Secretary and Department of Irrigation and Drainage as the implementing agency.

“The different phases of Batu Kawa Riverbank Park is also due to funding from different sources and it having recreational facilities inclusive for different age groups,” said Dr Sim on a Facebook post today (Jan 7).

Upon completion, Dr Sim said the people will be able to stroll the 3-4km Batu Kawa Riverbank Park.

“The children will have their playgrounds and the teenagers will have the recreational game facilities, hence a park for all ages.

“Hopefully Batu Kawa Riverbank Park will be more than a recreational park for the locals but will eventually evolve to be a tourist attraction like the Kuching Waterfront,” he added.
