MIRI: A third suspect in the Taman Jelita shooting incident on May 16 has been remanded for seven days until September 26 to assist in police investigation. Ng Cheng Hui, 37, nicknamed ‘Pui Kow’ (fat dog) was detained by police inside a house in Pujut Corner on Thursday morning, after some four months in hiding since the shoot-out. Police also detained his 22-year-old wife who is remanded for seven days.
On May 16, three masked men armed with guns crashed into the gate of a house at Jalan Pahlawan 3, Taman Jelita, Taman Tunku in an attempt to rob the house. They held a family of four for nearly 30 minutes before a mobile police vehicle (MPV) arrived at the scene at 1.30pm. One of the suspects was reportedly shot on his leg during an exchange of fire with the cops at the scene. At least 10 shots were discharged during the incident. A policeman was injured in the shoot-out.
The case is being investigated under Section 3 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971, Section 8 of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958, Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1953 and Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.
