JULAU: A third suspect was picked up today in connection with a rape case involving a 14-year-old disabled girl.

Julau OCPD DSP Andam Sulin said the 69-year-old suspect worked as a supervisor in a logging camp and was being detained for further investigation.

So far no confession has been extracted from the suspect.

“We found out that the (third) suspect was involved in this case after the police interrogated a foreign suspect, in his 50s, who revealed that he had molested the victim by touching the girl’s chest.

“However, further investigations are still underway,” Andam said today.

The victim’s mother had lodged a police report on June 5 claiming that two men, including her husband (the victim’s stepfather) in his 50s, were believed to have raped her daughter at 6.45pm the day before.

Following the report, the district police arrested the two suspects on the same day.

Preliminary investigations found that the victim was believed to have been raped by the foreign man at the end of May and the act was repeated last Saturday.

The victim also revealed that her stepfather had sex with the girl previously but was not sure of the date of the incident.
