Thousands attend wedding of Nanta’s daughter in Kapit

NEWLY weds Amanda and Jonathan receive a warm welcome by the VIP guests, parents, relatives and Kelab Gagung Sarawak members upon their arrival at Kubu Wharf.

KAPIT: Thousands of people from all walks of life and the various ethnic groups in Kapit district including a handful of foreigners attended a colourful traditional wedding ceremony of Amanda Sura Nanta the eldest daughter of the Deputy Minister for Rural and Regional Development Datuk Alexander NantaLinggi held at Fort Sylvia here on 8 July.

Amanda was married to Jonathan Thomas Inggit Jacques who is an engineer with Petronas. Earlier the couple had held their wedding reception in Kuching on 29 June.

The marriage ceremony began with the couple boarding a beautifully decorated longboat from Kapit Landing Base Facility at the new Bazaar at about 5:30 p.m accompanied by 21 Kelab Gagung Sarawak members in full warriors costume for a boat ride to Kubu Jetty in front of Fort Sylvia where the couple and entourage were received by another  batch of nine members of the club led by its chairman, Jabang Juntan. Others who received the newly weds at the jetty included the bride’s father Nanta and his wife Datin Angelina Celestine Ujang , Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr Leornard Linggi Tun Jugah, three State Assemblymen namely Wilson Nyabong Ijang (Pelagus),  Jefferson Jamit Unyat (Bukit Goram) and Gerald Rentap Jabu (Layar). All were accompanied by their wives.

Also present together at the marital ceremony were Jonathan’s parents, Thomas Harold Jacques and Christina Amy Jenta not to mention a good number of other dignitaries.
Upon their arrival at Kubu wharf, the couple took a rest at Fort Sylvia for a moment prior to the blessing of the marriage and ‘bebiau’ ceremony at an open stage next to Fort Sylvia that was officiated at by Austin Jaman Listin Baling.
